Redcliffe Suburb Description

Redcliffe is located just to the north east of Queensland's capital Brisbane.

It serves as the CBD for the Redcliffe Peninsula and it's surrounding suburbs.

Once governed in its own right, Redcliffe is now part of the Moreton Bay Regional Council. There has been calls to deamalgamate back to a separate council however this would be costly to undertake.

Suttons Beach, Redcliffe Jetty, Settlement Cove Lagoon, Redcliffe Museum, Redcliffe Botanic Gardens and Redcliffe Showgrounds are all attractions in the Redcliffe area.

Whale watching operators run tours of Moreton Bay from the Redcliffe Jetty. Further north at Scarborough and Newport, passengers for Moreton Island are able to enjoy the view of the Redcliffe beaches as they make their trip.

Jetty Markets are held on Sunday mornings in Anzac Place, which has seen extensive upgrading to facilities during 2011.

In September each year, Redcliffe used to celebrate its history as Queensland's first site of white settlers with the First Settlement Festival.

In 2011 this festival was renamed Celebrate Redcliffe and given a more general context.

The Festival of Sails is another large event that attracts thousands of visitors to watch the start of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht race.
